Because God Said So

"Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord." - Colossians 3:20
Paul makes this very easy to understand, so I will try not to complicate it here.
Children, if your parents are telling you to do something and it is not contrary to God's word, do it. Period.
If you do it, you not only please your parents, but you please the Lord. If you disobey, not only are your parents upset, God is displeased. That means He is upset too.
