The Book of Jude

14 April 2014

“Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.” (Jude 1,2)

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." (Jude 24,25)

I had a very blessed time in Arkansas this past weekend. I am thankful to have been able to attend the annual meeting at Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in Donaldson. I am especially grateful to the Lindsey family for the fellowship and chauffeur service to and from the meeting!

The next couple of weeks I would like step away from our study of the gospels and look at the Epistle of Jude. This is a remarkable book and I don't mean just because of its brevity!

The Book of Jude is jam-packed with the doctrines of grace and lessons to remind us to live according to those doctrines in our daily walk. It does have some very strong warning against living in sin but those warnings are written to children of God as instruction in righteousness not as warnings that we are going to hell if we don't straighten up!

As you can see in the verses quoted above, Jude encapsulates those warnings against sin with marvelous statements of salvation by grace. He begins by reminding his readers that they are saved by grace and ends the letter reminding them that they are kept in that state of grace by the power of God alone!

When viewed as a whole, the letter should give comfort to the child of God in regard to his eternal security. But at the same time, he is reminded to live in righteousness as a thankful heir of grace rather than ungrateful person seeking only his own pleasure.

Please pray for me as I attempt to instruct in this beautiful book. I pray that it will bring glory to God and be edifying to you.
