The Sanctity Of Marriage

29 April 2015

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: but I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery." (Matthew 5:27-32)

The fabric that has made America so strong for these many years is the Chrisitan Family. But when that unit is weakened or broken apart, society no longer has a moral compass or example to guide it.

Jesus, once again, teaches us that the motivation behind a sin is a sin as well. Lust is what leads to the sins of fornication, adultery, and divorce.

It is not the responsibility of others to keep us from lusting after them (although everyone should dress modestly). It is our personal responsibility to avoid situations of temptation whether they be actual physical locations or virtual locations through technology. We must take drastic measures to prevent temptation so that we will not fall into sin.

We should also remember that divorce is not a REQUIREMENT when there is conflict in a marriage. In fact, the Lord would prefer that we remember we are "one flesh." We should repent of our sins against our spouse and forgive our spouses offenses against us.

God has given us a precious gift to share for a lifetime. Our spouses are a wonderful blessing, and marriage is the ONLY way to enjoy that privilege in a holy way. Everything else is sin.

"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." (Hebrews 13:4)
