Who Spoke to Moses in Mount Sanai?

9 January 2015

"And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape."(John 5:37)

In the middle of Jesus' defense of His Deity, He makes a remarkable claim that was no doubt a shock to the unbelieving scribes and pharisees to whom Jesus spoke. They claimed to know the Bible well, but Jesus basically shows them they don't know much at all!

In this verse, Jesus says that no man had heard the voice of God the Father before. We have clear testimony that the Father spoke on at least two occasions in the New Testament. He spoke after Jesus' baptism and on the mountain during the Transfiguration.

Yet, Jesus is claiming that I man had heard the voice of God or seen His form before these events. So who did Moses see and hear? Who spoke to Elijah and the other prophets?

According to what Jesus says here, all the appearances seen and voices heard throughout the Old Testament were actually Jesus aappearing or speaking in some preincarnate form.

Paul confirms this Docrtine as well:

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"(Colossians 1:16)

The "him" in this verse is Jesus Christ. Therefore, Paul is saying that Jesus created all things. This means when the Gensis records the words "And God said..." It was the voice of Jesus that called forth the light and all the rest of creation!

Not only has Jesus always existed as the Eternal Son of the Eternal Father, all of human history recorded in the Bible has been about Him!
