Manifest

18 October 2017

"Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: the Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:" (Hebrews 9:6-8)

In verse seven, the writer tells us "the Holy Ghost this signifying." He is telling us the the actions of the High Priest under the ceremonial law were a symbol (signifying) of something that was to come later.

The veil symbolized the fact that the true way to God had not been made manifest yet. This does not mean that the true way to God was not certain and safe. The salvation of the elect has always been sure in the mind and purposes of God. However, it was not until the veil was rent in two that man was able to see that Jesus Christ is and has always been the only way to the Father.

Christ's work on the cross manifest (revealed) to us what God has been doing for us all along.
